North Island Brown Kiwi
Habitat
Kiwi birds originally lived in lush forests with a variety of plant species. Due to mass deforestation, they now must live in commercial areas where pine trees dominate these regions. Kiwi birds are burrowing animals, creating a large hole underneath the ground, while others may use hollow tree logs.
Great Spotted Kiwi
Diet
Kiwi birds are omnivorous, using their beaks to find insects, earthworms, berries, and even crayfish. They poke into the earth, using their sense of smell to find food. Additionally, kiwi birds are one of the only birds in the world to have nostrils at the end of their beak.
